About Truth or Consequences
Truth or Consequences is a popular tourist destination located in the Sierra County, New Mexico. The county seat of Sierra County is a spa city, thus visited for health reasons. Originally it was called Palomas Springs or Las Palomas. In 1914 its name was changed to Hot Springs, but in 1940 was renamed after the show Truth or Consequences hosted by Ralph Edwards. This small resort with 7 200 inhabitants is located on Interstate Highway 25.
To appreciate Truth and Consequence you must see the city for yourself. It has a dessert natural beauty contrasted by the Rio Grande River. Truth or Consequences is renowned for its mineral waters, wonderful climate the entire year and multitude of recreation facilities. Some magazines have called Truth or Consequences one of the top retirement destinations in the United States. A comfortable house in Truth of Consequences costs about 60 000$, well below the national average.
After a bath in the soothing hot springs in one of the mineral bath houses and spas, the tourist can enjoy the recreational opportunities around Elephant Butte and Caballo lakes. Along the Rio Grande fishing and camping are very popular, as well as windsurfing, waterskiing or rafting. You can choose from climbing in old mining towns of Chloride, Winston and Hermosa, play golf in Truth or Consequences Municipal Golf Course or ride mountain bikes.
In Truth or Consequences there are 3 state parks: Elephant Butte Lake State Park- 5 miles from the city, Percha Dam State Park - 20 minutes drive from the city and Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway. The main attraction in the city is without any doubt its mineral waters. Truth or Consequences has nine mineral spas and Riverbend Hot Springs, an open air bath.
For the nature lovers Truth or Consequences offers a lot of landscapes: the unique dune field of White Sands National Monument, the rocky hill and weird formations in Rock Hound and City of Rocks State Park and the Gila Cliff Dwellings offering an insight in Mongollon life 700 years ago.
